All Secrets of the Blue Cave and The island of Biševo you didn’t know!

There are so many blogs and articles about The Blue Cave Tour from Split and Vis and Biševo island, and we’re sure you have read it already. Still, in this blog, we will try to answer some unusual questions. We will try to explain to you why Biševo is interesting not only to foreigners but also to Croats and Dalmatians. Because – Because summer is at the door, at least in Dalmatia.

Island of Biševo – home of The Blue cave

Can you tell me the secrets of the island of Biševo?

Since the beginning of World War II, when the island had about a permanent population of 200, the island’s population has been steadily declining. The main settlement on the island was Polje, where the school was until 1961, now uninhabited. Other settlements on the island are Salbunora, Porat, Mezuporat, Vela Gora, Potok, Nevada, Gornja Salbunora.

Biševo is the most farthest inhabited Croatian island, connected only to the island of Vis by a ferry line. That boat passes one of the most dangerous sea crossings on the Adriatic!

Green Cave from Above

Due to its geographical position, the island of Biševo is mainly exposed to high waves and strong winds from the west, but also from the south and north. Calm sea is relatively rare. There is no water supply network or drainage system on the island of Biševo, which is one of the main reasons for the accelerated depopulation of the island.

However, several families and couples currently live on the island. Next to the school is a small church named after the patron saint of Biševo – St. Silvestre, and the great feast is done on the 31st of December when the only day of the year is for the priest to come to the island.

In the summer, everyone lives, there is an artistic residence program, both young and old come, they breathe with full lungs. However, compared to other islands, there is always a certain amount of peace and quiet, easy-going life and contemplation.

The power of Nature

Why Is the Blue Cave Blue – the most important secret of the Blue Cave

Discovered as far back as 1884, The Blue Cave, as you already know, is located on a small Dalmatian island in the Adriatic Sea called Bisevo.

Since 1884 there is a small entrance through which a boat enters. Debates are still heard among the locals, should the cave have been opened to the public and tourists? Is the profit worth the risk of damaging the cave and the beauty of Biševo?

Nobody has the right answers, but it is good that the entrance to the cave was regulated and forbidden if you would like to go there alone.

Have Passion for Blue?

The cave itself is interesting as a natural phenomenon that manifests itself by glowing with fluorescent light from the bottom to the top. Leaving you with the impression that you are hovering while swimming in it.

The reason for this lies in the position of light and the angle at which it enters the opening under the sea. A depth goes to a maximum of 20 meters. White pebbles that, in combination with the angle of light, give this unique and fantastic unnatural effect of fluorescence.

What is the best moment of the day for visiting The Blue Cave?

Many believe that early morning and late afternoon is the best time to visit the cave. But, it has a magical turquoise glow all day long. Currently, you can only enter with official boats. It is most difficult to reach during the south, but just then the stay in it is supposedly even more special. reasons – the noise of the sea, the trembling of the rocks, and every wave that arrives. An oasis for all the senses.

Like in a dream

The secrets of the Blue Cave say that the visit is most beautiful between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on a sunny day. If you come to the cave before 10 o’clock, you will see a not so intense light. During the season you often have to wait in line, but there are cafes and snack bars where you can shorten your time. To completely avoid the crowds, visit the cave at any time between late September and early June.

Due to its geographical position, the island of Biševo is home to high waves and strong winds from the west, but also from the south and north. Calm sea is relatively rare. There is no water supply network or drainage system on the island of Biševo, which is one of the main reasons for the accelerated depopulation of the island.

By the way, electricity came to the island in the 70s, but water is supplied from wells. This is not a phrase when it is said “how it was done in the past” because it is done here as it is now. If you want to make good fish on greens, you need to pick up wood and believe me it has nothing to do with something baked on charcoal.

Can you swim in the Blue Cave Croatia?

The secrets of the Blue Cave you won’t like: You can’t swim in the Blue Cave, both for safety reasons and to preserve the water clarity, however, some intrepid swimmers enter after hours on their own.

Swimming inside Blue Cave is not an option. You cannot enter the cave swimming and you cannot jump into the water from the boat inside the cave either. The Adriatic Sea is a God-given summer pool. The temperature is warm enough to stay in for hours and cool enough to refresh yourself from the midday sun. .So, choose another spot to swim.

Once you enter the Blue cave, you can spend 15 minutes in it, which is enough to experience the beauty of the blue rays that propagate with crystal clear waves. Keep in mind that swimming is not allowed inside, but you can do so in other caves on Biševo.

The best-preserved monument of the Roman Empire in the World! A place to be!

Diocletian’s Palace is a cultural monument that the people of Split are most proud of. Today the palace is a strict center of the old part of Split where people still live. Perhaps that is what fascinates every tourist who wanders the narrow streets that have been here for more than 1700 years. What is the most important – this is currently the only palace in the world that people live in!

He was born in Salona, which is the next place to visit! Or the first? He ruled for two decades until illness forced him to abdicate the throne at the age of 60 and retreat to a spectacular palace on the Dalmatian coast in the modern-day city of Split, Croatia.

How Diocletian’s Palace became A town?

Although Diocletian’s Palace was originally built as the emperor’s summer residence, no one, even the emperor Diocletian himself, could have imagined that there would still be living within the palace so many years after his death. Over the centuries, the inhabitants of the palace and then the citizens of Split adapted these spaces to suit their needs. For this reason, both the buildings in the interior and the outer walls with towers greatly changed their original appearance. Despite that, the contours of the imperial palace remain very visible.

Croatia as a hit destination – meet a Blue Cave !

It is not only a destination that offers a clean blue sea and nice warm weather but also unspoiled nature, rich history, great cultural and entertainment programs, tradition, lifestyle. It is also a destination that shows you will be safe during this pandemic situation. Blue Cave Tour, about which we are going to talk about here, is also a hit destination!

During this exceptional time caused by virus Covid 19, the authorities have done an excellent job by closing down the whole country early in March. As a result, Croatia combated the spread of Covid 19 successfully. This is all making Croatia a hit destination.

Croatia is an ideal destination not only for individuals but also for families. For a perfect vacation, we suggest central Dalmatia, the heart of the Adriatic. There you will find a great part of the natural wealth. You will have the opportunity to enjoy various sports such as rafting, sea kayaking, canyoning. Or if you prefer, you can do a beautiful quiet private trip to the Krka National Park early in the morning or just decide to see the most beautiful and the most visited National Park in Croatia, the exquisite National Park Plitvice Lakes. Private boat tours give you an experience of exploring the beauty of Dalmatian islands, swimming in the Adriatic sea, and dolphin-watching.

Croatian natural beauty is one of the most common motives for tourists to visit Croatia. Croatia is a country full of natural beauties, in its surrounding You will always be able to find some national parks, some natural parks or other natural beauties to leave You breathless. Croatian forests, rivers, national parks, nature parks, and other natural beauties are more and more visited every year.

One of such natural beauties is Blue Cave on the island of Biševo as part of our popular Blue Cave and 6 Islands Tour.

Blue Cave Tour Itinerary

Traveling on a fast rubber boat, you will arrive at the Cave around 8:30 in the morning. After sightseeing the cave, you will head to the following destinations (Vis, Stiniva and Stončica bay, Pakleni archipelago, a town of Hvar, Brač, ..)

You will see so many natural beauties in just one day. Swim, relax, walk around, explore and finally have lunch in the town of Hvar. You will no doubt enjoy it. Everyone who was on this trip was delighted with the beauties of the Croatian sea and islands. We live in a time when social distance and being outdoors are emphasized.

In other words, now is a great time to take advantage of summertime and book a private tour to the Blue Cave and Hvar and 6 Islands. Lunch included!

Discover the best Croatian Islands

Summer begins… extremely warm days will soon be here and the first thing that will come to your mind is why not use such days for excursions, which is the best way to get to know the rich tradition of the islands as well the beauty of well-preserved nature. The most beautiful islands to visit are definitely Vis and Hvar.

These islands will enchant you with their original Mediterranean architecture and hospitable islanders in a traditional way. Komiža and Vis are rare Mediterranean pearls of exceptional natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, fishing traditions and kind natives. The part of Croatia that will enchant you and show you a completely different world where everything is so simple, relaxed and special. The islands with a rich history, the islands of the Illyrians, Greeks and Romans.

The first thing you will notice when you get there is the crystal clear sea, untouched nature and aroma of the lavender, myrtle, rosemary. You will have the impression that time has stopped in this part of Croatia. In the way that is true. At least in terms of natural beauty and environment and food. Our most famous Blue Cave tour from Split will give you an insight into this beauty. A glimpse of the adventure.

Blue Cave tour starts in Split. Early in the morning at 7:30 a.m. We try to include in this tour as many islands, beautiful bays and beaches as possible. To see at least a part of the Adriatic beauty. The Blue Cave on the island of Biševo is considered a natural phenomenon. Its artificial entrance, in the shape of a vault, was made at the very heart of the island, but since it is very low, the passengers on board must bend at the entrance. Due to the low entrance, it is important that there is no tide and that the sea is calmer. You will get the most impressive experience of the Blue Cave around 9 am because of the glowing blue light that appears at that certain time of day.

The depth of the sea is 16 meters and leaves visitors breathless. One of the most beautiful beaches is Stiniva, a pebble beach. This beach on the island of Vis was declared in 2016 as the most beautiful beach in Europe. Stiniva is also known for its narrow and long bay that ends with a stone door through which people enter.

In the southeast of the island, there is a real little sandy beach paradise in the bay called Stončica. There is enough shade, a beach volleyball court and for refreshment, you can go to a nearby café or restaurant.

Charming places, enchanting views, and breathtaking landscapes make the sun-kissed Adriatic coast the ultimate oasis to experience history, culture, and the great outdoors.

You have no choice but to come to our office and make a reservation for the Blue Cave tour. Surely, you will soon find out why this boat trip from Split is our best-selling trip.

Hvar is the island we are going to visit on return. It is absolutely astonishing, and we recommend you to visit it for another day or two because this island is worth of it!

Have a great time!

3 day private sailing to Hvar & Vis

Our private boat tour offers you an unforgettable experience of sailing through to the Croatian islands and meeting some of the most famous tourist attractions on the Mediterranian. Our agency offers a large number of boat trips from Split. A large number of trips include the Blue Cave trip along with 6 islands, while other boat trips include the Blue Lagoon. Regarding land excursions, the most famous are excursions to Plitvice Lakes from Split and Krka National Park. All these trips include more people, however, if you are the type of person who loves his privacy while traveling and wants to visit some of the most famous Croatian islands, then this is the trip for you!

In this Private boat tour, you will enjoy a panoramic view of the famous Pakleni islands, you will visit the sunniest island on the Adriatic – Hvar where you will spend the night, the next day you will visit Vis and Blue Cave, and the last day you will enjoy the island of Brac. The entire excursion includes a private yacht with a skipper comprising three cabins, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a deck. The price also includes diving and insurance equipment.

Detailed Tour Itinerary

The tour starts from Split, the largest city in Dalmatia but also one of the most beautiful cities in Croatia. Split represents the economic and cultural center of Dalmatia and is also a former resting place for the Roman emperor Diocletian. Emperor Diocletian built a palace on the territory of Split whose remains are one of the best-preserved monuments of Roman architecture in the world. Today, Diocletian’s Palace is an old part of town with many cafes, restaurants, and shops, and is an ideal place for sightseeing before embarking on a boat tour.

The first you’ll see on this private boat tour are the Croatian Pakleni islands, a group of limestone islands located a few hundred meters from Hvar. The island itself contains about twenty larger and smaller islands that stretch for almost ten kilometers and give its visitors a beautiful panoramic view, ideal for taking pictures but also for anchoring and swimming in the crystal clear the Adriatic Sea.

The second destination is the so-called sunniest island on the Adriatic – Hvar. Hvar is an island of hedonism, an island of the best restaurants and entertainment. The town of Hvar itself is the center of the island, exuding an island culture and its mystical beauty that includes small stone houses, churches and streets full of restaurants and shops. Hvar also has a large number of beautiful beaches that should not be missed, some of the most famous are Veliki Pokrvenik, Daria beach, Feronija beach, Jagodna, Mala Stiniva and others.

Time for The island of Vis

The next day we will head on a new excursion to Vis, the most remote island in the Adriatic Sea, which has an extremely rich history. The first settlement on the island was founded by Greek colonists from Sicily, who helped to develop the island into today’s economic and urban center of that part of the Adriatic. Vis was extremely known as a military stronghold until 1992 when it increasingly turned to tourism development in the area of the island but also to wine production. Vis is one of the most famous Croatian islands, which has a long tradition due to its rich history and cultural heritage. Today, the island of Vis is a place of beautiful green spaces, a large number of tourist facilities, pebbly and sandy beaches and anchored sailboats looking for their accommodation. Vis will delight you with its tourist offer, gastronomy, wines and natural beauties that will remain etched in your memory.

The second day of the excursion also includes a visit to the famous blue cave located on the eastern side of the island of Biševo. This tourist attraction, thanks to its popularity, can be attributed to the sunlight penetrating the rear smaller opening of the cave, thus reflecting and illuminating the sea in the cave in crystal blue light. The cave is entered by small paddle boats through a larger front entrance that has been pierced and accessible to the public since 1884.

The last day of sailing includes a visit to Brac, the largest island in Dalmatia. Brac is the place of the most famous pebble beaches, the most famous of which is Zlatni rat beach, whose pictures you can see on the covers of world travel magazines. Brac is also an ideal holiday island, but it is also an island that is extremely famous for its small, island-style stone houses, gastronomy consisting of Brac wines, olive oil and Dalmatian cuisine and small bays that are ideal for anchoring with boat. One of the most beautiful bays on Brac, which you will visit as part of this excursion, is Milna bay. Milna will delight you with its crystal clear sea, fishing lodges and rural architecture that stretches up the hills.

This three-day boat experience will leave you with memories of some of the most beautiful Croatian islands but also coves whose cleanliness will have to be hard to compare anywhere else. You will enjoy the deck, the Dalmatian cuisine, you will visit some of the most famous tourist attractions in the Adriatic, but the most important thing is that you will have your privacy.

ITINERARY:

Top 5 restaurants in Bol (Brač)

Brac is located directly opposite Split, the center of Split-Dalmatia County, and is the third-largest island of the Adriatic Sea and the largest central Dalmatian island. Brac is 40 km long and 12 km wide. The climate on the island is the Mediterranean, characterized by warm and arid summers and mild winters, and the island itself belongs to the sunniest Adriatic area together with the island of Hvar. Brač is a favorite resort, and one of the most popular municipalities on the island is Bol, located on the south side of the island. The municipality of Bol is the oldest coastal settlement of Brac, which stretches for several kilometers along the seafront. Bol is known for its world-famous beach Zlatni rat, which is also a symbol of Croatian tourism, and appears on the covers of world travel magazines.

Bol is a favorite destination for boaters and excursion boats, and today it has a well-developed network of hotels, private homes, apartments, and campsites that will meet all needs but also exceed the expectations of all visitors. In addition, Bol is rich in clubs, sailing schools, diving, tennis centers, sports fields, fitness centers, as well as services, many of which are restaurants that will surprise every visitor.
”A Wonderful Surprise – We randomly chose to eat here rather than because it was rated #1 on TripAdvisor during our holiday in Bol. Only afterward did I look and find this out. The food is amazing to say they are making it in such small surroundings. It was served quickly and was delicious and we enjoyed it with the bottled beer they sell. I loved Bol and have booked to return next year and will certainly be heading to Biomania again.”

”Excellent food, service, and location! – I am gluten and vegan free and was thrilled to find this restaurant on the beach. They not only have great meals but they also have gluten-free beers, vegan desserts, and breakfast bowls. I tried it all!
2. Arguola sandwich bar – 4.5* on TripAdvisor

TripAdvisor reviews:

”Great + affordable lunch-Delicious sandwiches with freshly baked bread. The price was excellent and the variety available was also wonderful. I had the eggplant sandwich and had the gal make it if it was for her and my hubby had the tuna. 100% would recommend!”

”Very good and not expensive – On our tour of the island Brac, we had lunch at Arguola. My husband had a sandwich with anchovies and I had a salad with mozzarella and olives. Both were very tasty and large. Price was very honest.”

”Simple bite to eat. – If eating freshly hand-made rolls and fillings isn’t enough for you then your crazy. This little spot is perfect for a bite of light lunch simple rolls and sandwiches. All the bread is made on-site and you can smell the beautiful creations before seeing them.
Tripadvisor reviews:

”Loved it – It is up the hill a bit but worth the walk. It is well-appointed and modern but still with local charm. Friendly service and reasonable prices especially for traditional meals.”

”Beautiful family dinner – This restaurant was recommended by our host and all locals that we asked and totally fulfilled expectations… When arrived we got warm bread and yummy sauce for appetizer from very attentive waiter Dali who was making jokes all time and answered all our questions… My kids are very picky with food but finished whole risottos and pasta… Octopus salad , Beefsteak in Pepper sauce and fish my recommendations … We ll be back for sure”

4. Mali Raj restaurant – 4.0* on TripAdvisor¸

This restaurant is located right next to the beach and is surrounded by olive trees and vineyards. Little Paradise is definitely a paradise for every visitor, as it will satisfy every visitor with their Dalmatian cuisine and cozy atmosphere.

TripAdvisor reviews:

”Delicious food – Our host recommends us this nice restaurant close to Zlatni rat beach. We had seafood pasta and grilled fish. Both beyond our expectation.”

”Culinary paradise for couples – Very romantic, intimate ambiance in a cute garden with lights. Food was amazing, especially octopus with potatoes which you have to order one day in advance. I also recommend red wine Plavac from Murvica.”

”Good food, great setting – The restaurant is right next to Zlatni Rat and like a Timeout review stated, could easily be a tourist trap, but it’s not. The service was impeccable: our server, Lav, gave us great recommendations (food and wine) and even gave us a few travel tips for the region. We took the fish platter and our only criticism was that the tuna was too cooked for our taste. Everything else was good. Let me say though, you come here for the setting. Sitting under olive trees in a terrace lit by lanterns, where the tables are spaced apart allowing you to enjoy your dinner with a feeling of privacy. Great find!”

5. Belvedere Dalmatian restaurant – 4.0* on TripAdvisor

A restaurant that offers the perfect view but also the finest snacks that will satisfy everyone’s palate. Vegetarian and gluten free foods are also on offer.

TripAdvisor reviews:

”The best in Bol – Professional! We happened to rent a room of the owner of restaurant for our stay in Bol, which offered us a 10% discount at his restaurant! We went for lunch, and I couldn’t ask for better lunch! probably one of the best lunch I had in my whole holiday in Croatia. The fish was fresh and tasty, the way they cooked was great and very well presented. We had a delicious meal, and staff were very friendly and welcoming, they also gave us some tips for our trip, which you can read on my website (check my tripadv profile). On top of that the view from the restaurant is way too nice! 5 star – well deserved! I would go again.”
